Polymers As Electrooptical and Photooptical Active Media (Macromolecular Systems, Materials Approach)

Liquid optics design
. . . if your designing and building liquid optics, this book is a good place to start. A working fluid, and a suitable substrate are the key elements to building flat and figured liquid mirrors as well as liquid gratings. Liquid telescope web sites offer some resources but are physically limited in their operating geometry due to gravity. Mercury and galium/indium alloys are common working fluids because of their reflectivity and low vapor pressure. This book deals with non-metalic working fluids, polymers, like low viscosity silicone oils, etc. This is a good jumping off point into an unknown field of research.

Questions for Kids: A Book to Discover a Child's Imagination and Knowledge
Published in Paperback by East West Discovery Press (01 April, 2003)
Authors: Michael Smith, Crystal Smith, and Albert Lin
Average review score:

Help your small child learn and expand their imagination
"Questions for Kids" is a collection of a thousand questions that can be used to help kids expand their imagination and understanding of the world around them. Each question can be used as a springboard to discussion and education. Some answers are sure to bring surprises to the adult asking the question. Others are just good questions to help children expand their thinking.

For example, one question is "What do you need to make pizza?". This leaves you with the option of including pizza dough or flour, water, and other ingredients of the dough. On the other hand when it comes to toppings what could be added? You could get really creative with this in determining what is appropriate or not. What about ice cream for a topping? Not appropriate? Maybe it would be if the "pizza dough" were phyllo, the "tomato sauce" were ice cream and the toppings were strawberries with chocolate drizzled across it. Open a child's mind to the possibilities of the world is one of the best gifts you can give them, this book helps you get started with many, many questions that can be used to help them think creatively.

If you would like a collection of questions to ask your young child that will help them learn manners ("What do you do if someone has bad breath?"), basic science ("Do fish have feathers?"), or expand their creativity ("What do you like to pretend to be?") this is a great collection to get you started. A recommended purchase for anyone seeking a starting place for expanding their child's mind, it is a recommended purchase.

From the back...
He'd kissed her in the twilight and Liz's young heart had been lost forever. Now, thirty years later, Guy Heller was back in town, and the widowed Liz Babcock, respected music teacher, pillar of the community, seemed powerless to resist the magnetism of a hard-living, thrice-divorced country crooner. Her beau, Martin Avery, was shattered. Liz's mother wasn't speaking to her. Her daughters were horrified. Throughout Claro County, scandal swirled around Liz Babcock and her Rhinestone Cowboy.

My Opinion...
Liz and Guy's love survive thirty years of being separated from each other. They have both lived, loved, and lost. However, now Guy is back and he wants Liz. It is not hard for the reader to feel the ... attraction that practically leaps off the page. It is sad that Martin Avery loses Liz, but he gains so much from an unexpected woman. As for the rest of the town and Liz's family in particular, they acted like selfish, self-centered children. For heaven sakes they were all worried about themselves instead of Liz. Poor Guy has had a terrible childhood and things did not get better as he has gotten older. Guy seems to have no one to turn to except Liz. I was excited by the pairing of these two characters because they seem so right for each other. The only problem I had with this book was the decision by the authors of this series to do what they did to Jeff, Beverly's fiancee. Their story was in an earlier book. I feel cheated somehow because I invested myself into their relationship by reading their story, only to have it end the way it did in this book. You will just have to read this yourself to know what I mean. Putting the situation with Jeff aside I must admit that I enjoyed this book and it was a great addition to the series.
